Well, it’s been a long time coming. We first spoke about these spaces a year ago, when we shared our design plans – which you can catch up on here and here. We got started on the renovation shortly after that, but Covid had disrupted our timeline. Now that the rooms are completed, we are LOVING how functional each space is – especially now that we’re at home more than ever.

The laundry room was a pretty big upgrade for us. When we moved in, the washer and dryer were hanging out in the kitchen. When you walked into the house through the back door, they were right there to greet you. They were huge eyesores…and frankly just too far from where our dirty clothes were actually accumulating.

Now they live upstairs on the same level as all of the bedrooms. We converted 2 adjoining closets (that weren’t totally needed) into this larger laundry room. It lives off of the butler’s stairs, in truly the ideal location.

While this is a utility space, we wanted it to be interesting too. Let’s be honest, we could all use a little PEP in our step when it comes to completing chores. To make the task more HAPPY, we added an accent wall of wallpaper above a mint-colored cabinet. The open shelves house colorful artwork and leaves room for detergents and other laundry implements. The sink is super functional for hand washing (a chore I DREAD) but the environment is fun and fresh, making it less of a drag.

Onto another utility space, our mudroom! This space, formerly a small outdoor porch (aka a concrete pad), was enclosed by the previous owner. It was poorly done but a needed room none the less. The space was cold and tired – so we brought it to life with blue colored trim and a herringbone floor tile. There are plenty of hooks for coats, bags and dog leashes. The theater seats not only add character to the space, but also easy access to a place to put your shoes on. One of the meatier tasks we took on was connecting this space to the garage. While the garage is attached to the house, there was never any interior access to it. To enter the garage, the only option was to go outside and open the garage doors. Now we can enter the space through the mudroom.

All in all, these are two of the most hardworking rooms in our house. The laundry room has plenty of space for us to comfortably wash clothes and the the mudroom gets a ton of action every day with all of the animal wrangling we do! We’re glad that we were able to infuse some personality into each space – it’s not everyday that you come across a mint green laundry room or a pale blue mudroom.

We hope you enjoyed our mini reveal – more to come as we continue to make the final new updates to our forever home! xx
